Now
that you have chosen the ideal island, you’ll be even more
excited to discover the talent of our wide range of qualified
chefs.
St Lucia hosts a number unique restaurants offering dishes in Italian,
Creole, Chinese, Indian, and even traditional St Lucian cuisine, in casual
and
elegant
settings. Some of these restaurants provide mid to upscale cuisine with
comfortable and beautiful atmospheres. Provided below in
a short list of some of the restaurants in the north end of the island,
this has been
done in this way because the majority of travelers to the island tend
to be up north.
Tipping: if service charge is not included, tipping is usually
10% of your bill, this is optional but suggestible. Government tax is
8%.

Roadside
Eateries the local option
While
Rodney Bay has established itself as St Lucia’s dining centre,
several small, inexpensive roadside eateries in the north of the
island
emerge
as local favourites.
There is nothing quite like a roti on the go, a hot creole bread
with cheese on the way back from the beach, or a first stop for
barbeque before a big night out on the town. Small restaurants and
eateries are often overlooked, but really they can’t be matched
for affordability, quality and a truly local experience.
Ginnette’s
For a great Friday night grill experience before heading out to
the party and entertainment district, Ginnette’s is the place. Serving up whole grilled
lambi (conch), barbequed pork and chicken with typical St Lucian side dishes,
Ginnette’s cannot be beat. This roadside eatery does not appear at first
inspection to be much more than a lean-to, barely off the main road, but aficionados
will tell you that no one does lambi better. To get there, on the main highway
northward bound, turn right at the Monchy Gap, follow the road in for about a
mile and a half. Ginette’s is a small white chattel house with outdoor
seating roadside.
Chicken Vans
Any night of the week, head down into Rodney Bay Village and be
confronted with the choice of several mobile fast food vans. In
the mood for hot and spicy, try
the jerk pit which serves up the Jamaican speciality which is bound to set
your taste buds alight. Or try the yellow van next door which
delivers a St Lucian
favourite, chicken! Further along the main entrance to Rodney Bay Village on
your right hand side, past Domino’s Pizza, is La Roulette which does a
particularly satisfying panini. These places do a brisk business on weekend nights,
when the party crowd trail home from a night of indulgence for an order of fries
that just tastes better after a few Piton beers.
C&J
C&J’s restaurant is fast cornering the market on the Trinidad and Tobago
specialties roti, buss up shot and doubles. For a bit of curry spicing and a
meal that is bound to satisfy, nothing quite does the trick like an order from
C&J’s. Saturdays are especially popular for the beach bound set, and
for those running errands and no time to worry about lunch and order picked up
from CJ’s goes down well with the hungry crowd at home. C&J’s
is just off the main road on the left hand side northward bound just after M&C
contractor’s depot.
Boso’s
Boso’s is a bit of wonder. Renowned for fish and lambi nonpareil, Boso
doesn’t keep any particular hours. Fans drive by the small roadside shack,
eyes peeled for some sign that they are in luck and veer off the road excitedly
when they find the fates have been kind. Patience is a virtue at Boso’s
but repeat diners will tell you it is worth it every time. Northward bound, right
hand side at the Windward Island Gases gap, just before Glace Motors, Boso’s
is a purple shack right on the corner.
Creole Bakery
Gros Islet needs no introduction really, the small fishing village
has taken on a larger than life persona and is a must stop for
any visitor to the island.
What most visitors miss however while feting the night away is the little creole
chattel house right on the corner of the turn into the village that serves
up the most divine hot creole bread, known to locals as tete pain.
Homeward bound
after a day out at Pigeon Island, the hot bread is just the thing to end a
perfect day.
Keep your eyes open for non-traditional dining options. Look out
for cars parked along the roadside and the people overflowing
from inside. This is a sure sign
that you won’t be disappointed. Don’t know what to order? Don’t
be afraid to ask, a recommendation from a local could open up a whole different
culinary world!
NIGHT LIFE
St Lucian nightlife tends to be sporadic and spontaneous – a rum shop with its doors flung wide, a barbecue set up by the side of the road with speakers mounted and pulsing dancehall and soca beats. Some of the best parties on the island are the street parties which have emerged around a tradition of Friday night fish fries, particularly in the villages of Gros Islet in the north of the island and Anse La Raye midway down the west coast. Here fresh local fare is served up on the grill along with ice cold drinks and a party should you decided to stay on past the dinner hours. In fact Gros Islet has become somewhat de rigueur on the visitor circuit.
Rodney Bay in the district of Gros Islet and a centre for visitors because of the high density of hotels, a marina and all sorts of amenities, has emerged as an entertainment centre with over thirty bars and restaurants from which to choose. The hotspots tend to surge and recede in popularity but there is a central core which is always pulsing with activity with roadside bars, eateries and restaurants which become hotspots after hours. Hotels generally have some live entertainment on offer from floor shows to live music and some of them attract the local crowd as well. Country and Western dances are becoming increasingly popular and every Saturday night the second floor of the Castries market is transformed into Nashville Palace which plays old honky-tonk and new country.
Apart from that there are scheduled concerts and events from time to time at venues like The Gaiety in Gros Islet, Samaans Park in Choc Bay and Coco Cabana at Coco Resorts in Rodney Bay. Around the big festival times like Jazz, Carnival, and World Music there are auxiliary events aplenty to choose from.
