Please read about the two airports (below) in St Lucia before planning
your trip.
If you are flying direct from Europe, Canada or the eastern seaboard
of the United States then you will fly into Hewanorra,
the only airport that can take wide-bodied jets.
From Britain it is served by British Airways, Virgin Atlantic and
BWIA, from the United States by US Airways and Air Jamaica and from
Canada by Air Canada.
American Airlines route all their services via San Juan in Puerto
Rico, with a connecting flight on American Eagle. This is generally
slow and a nuisance, but it does have one advantage in that it enables
you to arrive and leave from George FL Charles
Airport in the north of St Lucia which is closer to
the majority of the hotels and local night life.
It’s worth noting that if you have difficulty finding a flight
to St Lucia, or there is no flight on the day that you want to travel,
then it is often possible to fly via Barbados, from where there
are many transfers each day, including an evening flight that leaves
after the scheduled arrival of the international services. Connecting
flights will probably fly into the northern airport outside Castries.
Other inter-Caribbean airlines servicing St Lucia are Caribbean
Star and LIAT, both of which fly up and down the island chain and
to Barbados, and Air Caraïbes, which emanates from the French
islands.
Estimated flying times from some of
the major cities around the world:
3.5 hours from Miami to George
FL Charles Airport
4 hours from New York to
Hewanorra Airport
5 hours from Toronto to Hewanorra
Airport
8 hours from London to
Hewanorra Airport

George
FL Charles Airport (SLU) - Formally known as "Vigie Airport"
George
F. L. Charles Airport, which, due to its size and proximity to the
capital city Castries, plays host to a number of general aviation
and commuter airlines linking Saint Lucia to the other territories
of the Eastern Caribbean.
Not withstanding its size and physical characteristics, George F.
L. Charles Airport attracts a greater volume of air traffic than
Hewanorra International Airport. The airport is serviced by a number
of Airlines including American Eagle, Leeward Island Air Transport
(LIAT) 1974 Limited, BWIA Express, Air Caraibes, Eagle Air and Carib
Aviation (Saint Lucia) Limited, all of which engage principally
in the transport of passengers. Federal Express and DHL operate
daily services in support of their courier service, while Amerijet
International operate cargo services between Miami and Saint Lucia
three times weekly. A multitude of single and twin engine pleasure
aircraft frequent this airport. the average annual passenger throughput
for George F. L. Charles Airport is 394,000 while the average annual
aircraft movement is 32,000.
Located
in the north of the island is George FL Charles Airport (SLU) or
‘Vigie’, which is situated near to the capital of St
Lucia - Castries and to a large number of hotels in the north end
of the island. Vigie is the smaller of the two airports, handling
much of the regional and Caribbean flights. With flights from no
further afield than San Juan in Puerto Rico.
Many
of our hotels are in the north end of the island, hence this airport
is most convenient if you are coming from another Caribbean island
and are staying up north.
There are multiple check-in desks for the various abovementioned
airlines. The Airport is furnished with a small restaurant/bar,
washrooms, public telephones and a tiny book shop/stand. There
are also car rental booths, Tambou and a Duty Free shop. Vigie
Beach is across the road and boasts a good assortment of local bars
with food and drink at very affordable prices.
